How our Music Box Works
Our music boxes have a metal cylinder with pins that pluck the metal tines inside when the cylinder is turned. The circular metal casing amplifies the sound. The notes for this music box is arranged in an 8-note scale, and the melody is determined by the length of the metal tines. Music boxes can be wound by key at the bottom, and they continue to play until all the tension has been released from the spring. The mechanical nature of music boxes means that they will last for many years with proper care.
Is Amazing Grace a Christian Hymn?
“Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn with words written by the English poet and clergyman John Newton (1725–1807). Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He had been a seafarer for years and had been involved in the slave trade. He had led a life of sin and bad habits. But at some point, he had what he called his “great awakening.” He realized the error of his ways and turned to God. After that experience, he began working as a minister. He became an outspoken opponent of slavery and helped to bring about its abolition in England. “Amazing Grace” was first published in 1779 and quickly became one of the most popular hymns in both England and America. The simple yet powerful words have resonated with people of all faiths for centuries, making it one of the most beloved hymns of all time.
